Snowballing Streaks
Build consistency and sustainability by starting small and simple, stringing together small “wins”.
I want to build a habit of blogging consistently and regularly, but I don’t need to start building this process by telling myself I’m going to start off writing 7 blog posts in 7 days.
- First Goal – a streak of 1 of 1. Done. With “Something…” post.
- Second Goal – a streak of 2 of 2. Half way there with this post, 1 of 2.
- Third Goal – a streak of 3 of 3.
- Fourth Goal – you get the idea. But I’ll probably keep the streaks within the period of a week.
Snowballing Streaks.
That’s why I used the word “building” because it starts from scratch and it’s a building process, creating a solid foundation and using a progression to continue the work.
Because the hardest part isn’t the actual work or task itself the hardest part is the decision and sticking with it. The overwhelming, daunting feeling of embarking on what we perceive to be an impossible and endless commitment – that we know we’re going to break at some point or another. Snowballing Streaks minimizes that barrier, desensitizes the baggage of commitment and helps re-contextualize the risk of failure.
